Disciple is from a Greek word mathetes which mean an apprentice in some trade, a student of some subject, or a pupil of some teacher.
In the early time, a disciple is not to do anything without the guidance of the master, so the disciple is totally loyal and obedience to his teacher.
In this dispensation, either the disciple would chose his master and voluntarily join his school or the master would chose his disciple. But either way, it is the master that calls the disciple Jn. 1:35-40
The call into discipleship is the call to be with the master, not just his teachings but to his integrity. Mrk. 3:13-15
Three things attracts the disciple to follow the master.
1) the master's integrity.
2) the quality of his teaching.
3) the power of his miracles.
It is the master who lays down the principles for the disciples to follow: a true disciple meet the master's requirement and believe in him. Jn.6:60, 66-69
The reason for proper discipleship is for more work. You are chosen by the master to work. The second reason is to share our lives with the master and each others in love Jn. 15:16-17.
Disciples are called into common bond or order, and what rules in that order is love towards each other.
It is only in loving one another that we will be fruitful in serving the master and effective in prayers.
Discipleship is not easy, there maybe pains. No man can be a true disciple within his comfort zone.
But with the power of the holy Spirit in you and strength of relating with one another that we can win the battle against the power of the devil and help one another to fulfill the task God has given us.
