Image, the disciple and the master. Disciple is from a Greek word mathetes which mean an apprentice in some trade, a student of some subject, or a pupil of some teacher. In the early time, a disciple is not to do anything without the guidance of the master, so the disciple is totally loyal and obedience to his teacher. In this dispensation, either the disciple would chose his master and voluntarily join his school or the master would chose his disciple. But either way, it is the master that calls the disciple Jn. 1:35-40 The call into discipleship is the call to be with the master, not just his teachings but to his integrity. Mrk. 3:13-15 Three things attracts the disciple to follow the master. 1) the master's integrity. 2) the quality of his teaching. 3) the power of his miracles.
